“Wheat Paste is Gay” Ah, this wall has seen better days. No one has been bold enough to paste a major work on this wall since Swoon. Pasted paper is scraped off or sprayed over quickly. But I have seen some fun stuff last for a few weeks. I keep telling myself that I should update the Swoon mural video and show what has happened to this wall since then. I photograph here every time I go shopping, so I have a lot of material to work with. But the video needs a more interesting ending. I don’t think this is it. Filigrees of paper, cut by Swoon persist if you look closely enough.

Swoon is selling a print to raise money to build shelters in Haiti. She writes:
i am headed back to haiti next week!
there is a lot going on there, but we will be very cautious, promise, promise, promise.so, i am writing to bug you for a little tiny bit of wind in our sails.
i have just released a print to support our second trip.
it’s a drawing of one of the boys from the villages where we are working.
it’s a large edition, priced really affordably because we are hoping to cast our net for support very wide, to include people who might not always buy artwork, but who are interested, at the same time as being interested in supporting haiti.
i am wondering if you would be up for spreading the word about this, since it’s only going to be on sale for 2 weeks, and we are trying to generate a lot of money from it to pay for the 5 weeks of house building ahead of us.
if you have any friends or family who might be interested in this, upper playground who is helping us has said that they can get it delivered by christmas on orders that happen soon.

The print will only be on sale for a limited time until January 1st and is
priced affordably at $125 so that as many people as possible can be

Join for $20 a year, and get together with other 1stfans. On January 3, which is the First Saturday free day, they are having an event where 1stfans can bring paper and make their own prints, under the supervision of of a crew from Swoon’s studio. Most likely this is silkscreen printing. I am not sure if the designs are from Swoon’s hands or of her “school”. Swoon is traveling and will not be there. Update: I heard from the museum and the designs are Swoon’s and the printing is screen printing.

Swoon had help from 75 collaborators in putting the show together, and the result of all that collective labor is spectacular. Get to the gallery before sunset. It is best in natural light.
