Super-Moon
The super full moon actually lived up to the hype. It looked huge rising over the East Village tonight.

Moon and Jupiter

Moon and Jupiter
Jupiter is coming nearer to earth than it has been in 50 years. Here’s a couple of photos I was able to shoot hand held from the streets of the East Village. I’m fairly sure I got Jupiter in focus, but just that it shows up as a disc amazes me. Both were shot at the same focal length, so I’m sure some astronomically literate someone out there can tell. Labor Day Night

Manhattan empties out on the Labor Day weekend. A walk through my neighborhood with the dullest bits excised.

Katz’s Neon

Katz's Neon
Shooting hand-held at night without flash presents some challenges. The natural lighting and the movement blur of the people is appealing. But holding the camera steady enough at the required slow shutter speed is a bit chancy and the digital noise with my Panasonic DMC-FZ35 in low light exposures is very ugly. I’ve resorted to a much heavier Photoshop hand than usual for me.

LES Night

Essex Night
Trying to rescue the pixels from digital noise, I applied some filters. My camera is pretty noisy in low light. Essex and Stanton Streets.
Orchard Night
American Apparel was throwing off enough light to illuminate this scene. That’s a toy truck on the right. Orchard and Houston Streets.
