My old friend Noémie Lafrance choreographed this video nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Music Video of the Year.” I love it. This must have been so much fun to do.
She writes:
“The Grammy’s are Sunday night in LA, Feb. 10 and will broadcast on CBS at 8pm EST/PST-
The video was directed by Patrick Daughters and produced by Geoff MClean at Revolver Films in Toronto. It was a pleasure to work with this amazing team on this unique “one take” video with 48 dancers. The video has been seen by more than 7 million on You Tube and continues to propagate a love for dance which i am very proud of!”

Jenny Owen Youngs - “F*ck Was I”
A sweet video by an artist with appealing visage, humor and attitude. The word is even more censored in the video. It features a maypole dance. Jenny Owens Young on Myspace

May Pole Dancing at Winterborne Stickland Fete 2006
On May 1, 2006 the Bavarian town of Feldafing, Germany erected their new Maypole. Watch as the townfolk raise the 3,000 kg pole using only manpower and traditional hoisting equipment.
They must be using techniques handed down for centuries, probably what they used in the construction of scafolding for cathedrals and the raising of ship’s masts etc. It must be a near fail-safe technique to allow the spectators such a close look at what must be the work of willing amateurs. But I kept wondering about cradles slipping, or one or more of the slender raising poles cracking, and cascading their load to the other slender poles, and on to the broken bodies of the volunteers.
I also wondered how they kept the pole from continuing its path and smashing into the building behind. I heard a solid chunk when the pole was upright in the video. I suspect it fits into a slot. I don’t see guy wires holding it back, but then the video is pretty pixelated.
