I’m guessing that the Brandie Bailey ghost bike being tossed over the schoolyard fence is connected to the major water pipe replacement happening on East Houston Street. Since the Obama motorcade where the cops clipped locks and carted off all the bikes along Houston Street, this memorial bike has been leaning against its usual pole without a lock or plaque and looking bent and ragged. If it was found by school maintenance it is likely they put it aside, as the memorial bike must be well known to them.

The first of three consecutive Saturday events in NYC. The only place the road was crowded was where the route overlooked the dumpster pools at Grand Central. It was fun. More details here.

Summer Streets – August 23, NYC from GammaBlog on Vimeo
This is a video I shot in August 2008, strapping the camera to my chest and riding the route along Lafayette and Park. Tomorrow is the first Summer Streets event of 2010.
Summer Streets takes place on consecutive Saturdays in the summer (the 2010 dates are August 7, 14 and 21) from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm. The 2010 route connects the Brooklyn Bridge with Central Park with recommended connections along low-traffic streets to the Hudson River Greenway, Harlem and Governors Island allowing participants to plan a route as long or short as they wish.
