These characters remind me of something you would see in a Hayao Miyazaki film, like the great Spirited Away. Can anyone tell me if they are traditional Japanese folk characters? On St. Mark’s Place in the East Village.

Took this on the 22nd of January. The inside ad display was also covered. I would have gotten some closer shots but felt inhibited shooting while people were waiting for the bus, and I was heavily burdened with groceries and library books. The shot was taken from the Ottendorfer Library steps on Second Avenue.
