Other folks got much better footage of this sadness. I thought it best to keep my distance and not breathe any of the smoke. The whole neighborhood stinks of it this evening.
What a heroic thing to do, climb up that fire escape to search for people who needed help before the FDNY got there. The guy just barely gets out of there alive, with flames licking at him just as he reaches the sidewalk? He’s as cool as an action hero. Amazing footage from Troy Hinson.
