One of the gnarly black locusts in Tompkins Square Park had its limbs cut off. I suspect they are leaving it up hoping it sprouts new limbs like the other even gnarlier black locust further west on 7th.
You can see the tree fungus growing out of the trunk at the top. The squirrels loved this tree.
On Third Avenue between 11th and 12th an old brick building is being torn down.
I was at first thinking this was a kitchen wall.
But the wallpaper looks more like something for a dining room. Could this apartment have had a dining room?
The Hotel Ludlow, or whatever it is calling itself these days has resumed construction over the past month or so. But I haven’t seen anything substantial happening on the outside.
A photo from Sunday of a Honey Locust tree on Avenue B near 7th Street. It was apparently hit by a truck, you can see the damage inflicted on the branch overhanging the street. It must have been hit pretty hard the base of the trunk was severely cracked.
When I came by today all that was left was the stump.
Unless the sunlight catches them just right they are invisible from the ground. They zig-zag along the tops of the light poles on either side of Avenue A. It looks like mono filament to me. What possible use can they have? At points, like in this photo, the zig-zag is continued by thicker, more apparent rope. Neither would be capable of carrying electric current, and the mono-filament would not be strong enough to act as a guy wire. It’s a mystery.
I’d heard this woodpecker several times before, and I was staring up at the trees for about 10 minutes before it was kindly pointed out to me by Loy a park birdwatcher. Sorry the video is a bit wobbly, but I had to zoom in all the way and I had no tripod.
