Green Salon
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009The Green Salon is an event organized by Peter Fusaro and Carmen Cook that combines talks about environmental themes with music at the Klavierhaus.
Dimitri Sogoloff performed a Mozart sonata and excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
Michael Bobker emphasized the efficiency of co-generation and double pane windows over more glamourous technologies to meet our energy goals.
In an era of great technological development, many musicians were fascinated by machines and industry (like Mosolov in his "Iron foundry") and some futurists used modern machine sounds in their music (either exclusively like some futurists or in complement to ‘regular’ music instruments like Antheil with his airplane propelers in "Ballet mechanique"). Antheil also wrote piano pieces in that vein, including the "airplane sonata" and "death of machines" and "mechanisms".
So what I meant is for talks like this at the Green Salon with the environment in mind, playing music that glorifies the high ‘carbon footprint’ of the industry of that era may not be a good idea ;p
The Plasmatics with a carbon belching chainsaw would be another.
I assume playing Antheil’s "Airplane sonata" wouldn’t be a good choice for such talks…

That’s over my head, max.
