What Do You Hope?

I went to Tompkins Square Park today and asked this question. That is, I sat on a bench with this sign and my video camera on a tripod. In general I was avoided like the plague. I did, thankfully, get one interview. Not surprisingly, It was from a guy covered in Obama branded clothing. I also got a few smiles, but far and away, all I got were wary looks. Possibly, red, white blue are colors still hard to cuddle up to. I was wearing a flag pin as well, actually a flag on a toothpick I was given on an election day pastry. I waved it that night in Times Square, where it mostly received smiles.

  1. If you’ll indulge me for a moment, my top five hopes:
    Reinstate Habeas Corpus
Repeal (or rewrite) ‘No Child Left Behind’
    Let Patriot Act expire
Make an honest effort to repair economy
Close corporate tax loopholes and havens

  2. "Indulge you", that’s exactly what I hoped to hear in the park. Thanks LiTc. Good list.

  5. (1) U.S. out of other countries (especially where the U.S. has instigated war) so we can focus on repairing our problems here at home.

    (2) Restore all civil liberties (including Habeas Corpus, and the dissolution of sanctioned torture, i.e. waterboarding, etc.).

    (3) End of corporate animal abuse (including the end of factory farming; leaving wildlife habitats intact and giving animals more land to live on…).

    (4) End of corporate control of media, government, lobbies, etc.

    (5) Better health care for all (which also connects to corporate issues…).

There’s sooooooo much more, but this would be a great start…

  6. Thanks, Irene. I hope more people contribute to this thread. Do you have any suggestions of a Flickr group for this?

  7. Hi G, I’m not sure…there’s an Obama 2008 pool
    https://www.flickr.com/groups/barackobama2008/pool/
which seems pretty popular, and then there’s the interesting "message for Obama" book which is connected to the The Guardian I believe:

I don’t know that your pic quite fits the "message for Obama" pool, but it could work in that your comments could be considered the message. Maybe give it a try?
