Replacement Cube

Monday, March 14th, 2005

Aluminum replacement cube on Astor Place, about 2 this afternoon. I hear that a new Cube dubbed the jelloCube, made out of PVC piping and concrete, may have replaced it later in the afternoon. Earlier in the GammaBlaBlog.

Update: around 8 PM. Thanks to a heads-up from Jake Dobkins of the Gothamist on the nycphoto list. I heard about the jelloCube and went out to get some pix. I expected to capture some fun interactions with it, and I did, but only when I first got there and caught this couple stepping through the cube, hand in hand.

I hung out for about 20 minutes more and not another person touched it.

It is tied to the pole with polypro twine and does not freely revolve. I’m curious to see if it will still be there tomorrow.

Update 3/15/05, 10 AM: The jelloCube is still there. Cooper Union is in the background.

It still seems to be attracting minimal attention.

Sculpture for Living in the background.
