“Wheat Paste is Gay” Ah, this wall has seen better days. No one has been bold enough to paste a major work on this wall since Swoon. Pasted paper is scraped off or sprayed over quickly. But I have seen some fun stuff last for a few weeks. I keep telling myself that I should update the Swoon mural video and show what has happened to this wall since then. I photograph here every time I go shopping, so I have a lot of material to work with. But the video needs a more interesting ending. I don’t think this is it. Filigrees of paper, cut by Swoon persist if you look closely enough.
Sorry for the lo-res nature of this 2007 video. I need to give it an upgrade to HD.
This spot, where Swoon had her paste-up mural on the Lower East Side, continues to attract pasted paper artists. I don’t recognize the boxer, do you? The bound, kneeling, oddly proportioned stereotype of a Native American is pretty strange.
I had my camera out and ready to take a shot of the latest on this Swoon mural, when this official city car pulled up and the guy inside started looking closely at the mural. I suspect he may be looking to fine the building for the graffiti.
