Stanton Street Night

12/12/12 Night

Thursday, December 13th, 2012

I took my camera on the streets of my neighborhood on the evening of 12/12/12. Nothing in particular was happening so it needed something to tie the footage together. I improvised the guitar music over a track created in Otomata, an online program that creates music similar to the way cellular automata like the Game of Life creates movement. The audio is a bit over-modulated, but what the hell, I got it done before midnight. I’ll do better next time.

Still Girls
The girl in red asked me what I was doing and could I take her picture. I told her I was shooting time exposures and yes, if she could stay absolutely still for 3 seconds.

Warm Rain

Warm Rain
The rain was not as refreshing as I’d hoped. East Houston Street.

Fireworks

Local Fireworks
My neighbors put on a spectacular show this evening. I haven’t seen a such a large fireworks display in the neighborhood in maybe 20 years.

Hudson Fireworks
As usual the Macy’s Hudson River show was barely visible from my East Village roof. This shot is from the finale and is as grand as it got.

Super Full Moon

Super-Moon
The super full moon actually lived up to the hype. It looked huge rising over the East Village tonight.

Saturday Night Lights

A walk around my East Village neighborhood.

Moon and Jupiter

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Moon and Jupiter
Jupiter is coming nearer to earth than it has been in 50 years. Here’s a couple of photos I was able to shoot hand held from the streets of the East Village. I’m fairly sure I got Jupiter in focus, but just that it shows up as a disc amazes me. Both were shot at the same focal length, so I’m sure some astronomically literate someone out there can tell. Labor Day Night

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Manhattan empties out on the Labor Day weekend. A walk through my neighborhood with the dullest bits excised.
