Romio Meetup

Met Life Clock
I went to the Romio Summer Kick-off meetup last night. Their sixth floor terrace on 23rd Street gave me a great vantage for the Met Life Clock. I met Cathryn Swan of the Washington Square Park Blog and Rob Hollander of the Save the Lower East Side Blog. We were feted by the young and energetic Romio crew with beer, wine and artisanal cheeses. They don’t seem evil. Romio is interconnected hyperlocal Facebook networking, which is for sure some sort of possibly necessary evil. But what may make this social networking effort different than most is that Romio is making an active effort of face-to-face outreach to people in the neighborhoods. Romio is also a Tumblr blog, which doesn’t require a Facebook login. Advertising is hoped for from real estate, bars, restaurants etc. The main focus of Romio at the moment is in NYC, but they have outposts around the country.

Comment Spam and Ham

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Sorry to the commenters whose comments got kicked into the spam folder recently by an over-zealous spam filter . I’ve corrected the problem. Thank you, and keep the comments coming.

RSS on the Sidebar

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

I’ve made a selection of RSS feeds to display in the sidebar that will be of interest to regular GammaBlog visitors. Local weather and feeds from the best, most frequently updated East Village blogs and NYC news sources is on the top. Below that you will find political and environmental feeds. Also in the sidebar are your most recent comments, my latest Twitter, Blog Categories, a nifty animated Tag Cloud, Links to Favorite Blogs and the current phases of the moon. Many of the feeds will display more information when you hover your mouse over the headlines.

Blog’s Back, Baby!

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Thanks to the friendly patient folks at Dreamhost tech support.

Please report any bugs in the comments here.

This theme needs some tweaking, like getting rid of page list above. I don’t think I backed up the old css, where I figured out how to do this before. I do like this theme, Manhattan 4.2 by Manhattan Ray, for how it handles both text and photos.

Aw Crap!

For some reason all the links within the blog are coming up 404. Frack it to New Frack City!

But I still have to get it looking the way it should, and probably working out god knows what other bugs. But, Yay!

Dark Background

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I’m experimenting with a dark background for the blog. I think the photos look better against the dark. I’ll be tweaking the look over the next couple of days. Feedback is welcome. I’ve screwed with the CSS, let me know if you notice any glitches.

Update: new darker, even more mysterious tile for the background, now with connecting tunnels! I’m still tweaking the CSS, font colors are readable against the background, but they are not quite what I want. I made new icons for the header to mesh with the background. I think the video icon reads well, that is it states visually what it is about at only 36 pixels square.

For some reason, I am no longer able to search within categories using the search boxes in the header. I have no idea why. I’m working on that, it is a useful feature.

Word wrapping is now set to 1000 pixels, which seems reasonable as that is the usual maximum width of the photos I put here.

GammaBlog on Strike
I’ve been putting original content on the web since 1998 with no advertising, no monetary gain, and extremely little acclaim. You few GammaBlog fans may have noticed a diminishment of content over the past few months. Gammablog on strike means less new content and more highlighting of the old stuff few seemed to care about when new. That’ll learn ya!

Chew on some Kitty Blue for a bit, it will change your life. Created and animated by Kay Gelfman. I supplied the theme music for the series.
