Moon over Houston Street

Slightly ahead of the super full moon at sunset on the Lower East Side. When the moon at perigee coincides with the full moon it is called a super full moon. It is cloudy tonight when it happens, this was shot on Friday.

Tompkins Sq. Park Guardian Angel

High above the Southeast corner of Tompkins Square Park this armless, winged angel stares out over the park. I’ve seen other angels with wings for arms around NYC.

Space Shuttle – Civic Fame

I got to my roof just in time to get some shots of the Space Shuttle on its tour around the city before ending up on the Intrepid. Civic Fame is the name of the golden statue on top of the Municipal Building.

New Curb

If they do what they did on the north side of the street this new curbing on East Houston Street will widen the sidewalk by about 18 inches, to where the cut line in the street paving is. Though it looks like I am in for some noise during this process, at least they seem to be putting the finishing touches on the work that has been happening here forever. Or at least so I hope.
Update Tuesday:

My hope for a wider sidewalk at Norfolk Street was crushed. A new stone curb replaces the ugly but utilitarian metal, but the width remains the same.

St. Mark’s West Yard and Fence Restoration

St. Mark’s Church, noted for its political activism and experimental theater has been undergoing restoration on its West Yard garden.

Patch testing to see which paint remover will do the best job of leaving the stone pristine. The areas on the right of the photo are the results of earlier tests.

Kitchen or Dining Room?

On Third Avenue between 11th and 12th an old brick building is being torn down.

I was at first thinking this was a kitchen wall.

But the wallpaper looks more like something for a dining room. Could this apartment have had a dining room?
