Giant Elm Cut
Tuesday, August 21st, 2012
I heard a tremendous racket coming from the north-east corner of Tompkins Square Park this afternoon. This is what I found. They are chain sawing it into chunks and then shredding it. Very sad.

I suspect this is why the arborist ordered it cut down. The center was rotting.

As it was last Summer, Avenue B near 10th Street. R.I.P. August 21, 2012.

Update: 8/23/12

I don’t have confirmation, but it seems logical that this giant pile of wood chips came from the elm.
