Vigil to save 35 Cooper Square

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Candlelight Vigil to Save #35 Cooper Square !
Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 5:30 to 6:30pm
@ 35 Cooper Square (btwn 5th & 6th Street )

boweryalliance.org/

This is a candlelight vigil, not only about saving the house at 35 Cooper Square, but now, with this house as a symbol, of saving our whole neighborhood from unscrupulous developers that care nothing about our lives, our neighborhoods, or about our communities. We need to send a message, that one, we will not tolerate the demolition of 35 Cooper Square-they must incorporate this historic building into their major building plans. In addition to this-our message about further out-of-scale development to our neighborhood-will not be tolerated by the community of the East Village. Developers-take heed-we’ve had it and we will fight back!

Empire State from Village View

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Empire State from Village View
A relatively unobstructed and rare view of the Empire State Building from sidewalk level in the East Village. Shot from a publicly accessible sidewalk in the Village View Apartment complex. The other views that I know of are usually obstructed by tree limbs.

35 Cooper – Stop Work

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Update: This story in the NY Times says that the removal of the roof tiles is recent.
35 Cooper Roof from North
A look at 35 Cooper Square from the north. From the decrepit state of the roof the interior must be soaked and probably rotting. Why waste money on a tarp, when demolition is intended. Does anyone know when it was last occupied?
35 Cooper from North
You can see the size of the lot that is at stake.

Stikman Persistence

Stikman Persistence
The little fellow has been here for seasons. I love how the artist simulated the looks of what happens to road paint as it is smeared by tires in the heat of summer.
