New Pipe for Old

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

This seems like a seasoned crew, they came in, got the job done and then moved on. They may have been noisy, but it was a delicate job efficiently done.

Ghost Bike Over the Fence

Ghost Bike Over the Fence
I’m guessing that the Brandie Bailey ghost bike being tossed over the schoolyard fence is connected to the major water pipe replacement happening on East Houston Street. Since the Obama motorcade where the cops clipped locks and carted off all the bikes along Houston Street, this memorial bike has been leaning against its usual pole without a lock or plaque and looking bent and ragged. If it was found by school maintenance it is likely they put it aside, as the memorial bike must be well known to them.

EPA Coal Ash Hearing Banner

EPA Coal Ash Hearing Banner
Greenpeace activists Hope Kaye, left, and Lisa Ramsden rappel to unfurl a banner on the site of Coal Ash hearings at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky September 28, 2010. Highlighting the need for federal standards to protect public health from hazardous coal waste the activists unfurled the 23 x 23-square-foot banner that read “EPA: PROTECT PEOPLE, NOT POLLUTERS – QUIT COAL.” The protest was held at the location of the 7th of eight public hearings conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on two proposals for the regulation of coal ash disposal. Uptown F Repairs
Heading to the Dumbo Arts Festival so this was not a problem for me, but I just missed a train and had to wait for awhile. I like the way the pillars frame the lighted platform.

Manuel Del Valle Jr.

Engine 5
Heartbreaking photo and memorial flowers at Engine 5 on East 14th Street. Manuel Del Valle Jr. May 25, 1969 – September 11, 2001. If you slow down to see, all the neighborhood fire houses have brass plaques for those they lost on September 11, 2001. But seeing a face brings it all home.
