Stikman Melting
Or maybe Stikman on Salvia. The fun of finding a new Stikman piece is seeing how far that brave little stick figure has mutated. This one would take a topologist to warp him back to oldstyle.

Old Style Stikman

Photo, 2006, on the southwest corner of 11 Spring. It may have stood there for a few years unnoticed by me. The early ones I remember finding, hid in shadowed alcoves, not standing boldly at the corners like this one. But this is the way early Stikmen looked… tiny and made from actual sticks.

  1. Nice capture. It is an old Stikman. I have seen similar ones back in 2006.

  2. i saw a tiny 1 inch stikman on the bowery somewhere. it looked old, I was thinking of scrapping it off to keep as a keepsake. yay or nay? the building may be demolished soon anyway.

btw, the entire bowery is changing FAST. document it all while you can. 185, 187, 189, 191 bowery were recently purchased by brack capital. a few days ago riggers put up scaffolding at 189-191 bowery which means those two buildings will be demolished soon.

on hester st. 89 bowery was rapidly vacated the past few weeks, scaffolding put up as soon as the building was empty, and demolition started just a few days after the scaffolding. i have never ever seen that before (the speed).

250 bowery is an empty lot with a hotel project going on, right next to it is 246 and 248 bowery still standing, but empty.

261 bowery had just been demo to the ground floor last week

231 bowery was purchased last month by the new museum.

the flophouse at 241-245 next to the museum is on its last legs.

157 bowery had a big fire last year, and currently stands empty. the fate of that building is uncertain.

196 bowery was demolished in march, currently an empty lot.

the whitehouse flophouse/hotel/hostel was recently purchased by a hotel building company.

there are also a bunch of vacant stores up and down the bowery.

  3. Thanks Elisha. And ld, I’ll get on the stick and take more Bowery photos. Yeah that’s a good question, rescue the tiny stikman or let it go down with the ship. Dunno.

  4. i like this alot, although if someone saw this and they hadnt seen the other "stikmen" it might just look like a random blob :)
