This was the first Saturday of the Summer Streets program in New York City. Lots of bikers participated. Park Avenue and connecting streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park are closed to motor vehicles and open it up to people on three consecutive Saturdays in August (August 9, 16, & 23)

  1. cool! looks like people loved it. i couldn’t make it this saturday but ill be there next week.

  2. at 1-2pm, saw traffic cops and city cops were furiously picking up cones and dismantling barriers. on another street a dot truck was going down the street at a quick pace picking up cones. summer streets was over quick.

  3. Mulberry street, adjacent to Lafayette was jammed with the vehicles diverted from Lafayette. I wasn’t patient enough to get a good shot of that scene.

  4. yay! you captured me running! it was great!

  5. A vision of the future?
    Let’s hope so.

  6. Yeah, Manhattan could use a central, north-south artery for bikes. The avenues are dangerous bike territory as they stand. And going all the way to the west side bike path is impractical for the most part.

  7. Thanks Arthur, but great is a bit of a stretch. :)

  8. Pretty darn cool !!!
