On Sunday May 11th, 2008, the one year memorial for Eddie Boros the creator of the Tower of Toys was held in the 6th and B Community Garden. The NYC Parks department had just declared the tower unsafe and that it must come down. Eddie Boros was an amazing character, he had to be in order to build and preserve from destruction his 60 foot ramshackle tower of salvaged timber and rotting toys from 1985 until 2008, a full year after he died. I interviewed the gardeners and his relatives, asking them to give me stories about Eddie. I combined the interviews with the many photos I’ve taken of the tower, plus photos on the garden bulletin board, as well as some that people put on the garden fence after Eddie died in 2007. This is part one of a planned three parts.

  1. Very beautiful that you put that together…but sad too…I remember in 1987 the tower was the east village feeling for me.
The village is slowly dissapearing…thx for putting it together Mike……Marianna

  2. Great job Mike, and yes, I DID notice the bits of architectural ornaments. You really outdid yourself with this video, the quality of this top notch documentary is excellent and professional- worthy of being on TV, the evening news etc.

  3. G! Wonderful doc you put together…not only as a documentation of Eddie and the tower, but of the people in his life.

The song at the end worked so well with the footage. You should submit this doc to different sources.

Excellently crafted. I look forward to seeing more!

  4. Really enjoyed this…I missed the tribute night and you captured an important chapter closing for the 6B garden. I think that some people will never truly understand the East Village and it’s wonders. I’m glad I was able to get my share of Eddie time before his time was up. The Tower will be missed but it is Eddie’s life experience and us sharing in this experience good or bad ,the true loss. We miss him.

    Dave and family.
