Official Interest

I had my camera out and ready to take a shot of the latest on this Swoon mural, when this official city car pulled up and the guy inside started looking closely at the mural. I suspect he may be looking to fine the building for the graffiti.

  1. I read about that law being passed last year, I’m not sure how much it is being enforced.

  2. damn, are buildings fined when they get graffiti? Some in the hood must be owing millions ;p

  3. so hurtin

  4. i believe it has to start with complaints to the 311 hotline, then notices go out, then if the owner ignores, the d.o.s. cleans it and fines are issued.
    speaking of which:

  5. It would be funny to see that truck tagged.

  6. you are *so* reading my mind.
(i wonder if these are kept in that d.o.s. structure just south of east river park…)

  7. A full blown mural, would be sweet.

  8. now i’m starting to see some serious 70’s van styley airbrush fur bikini wearing amazon with a exotic big cat on a chain……
    sigh…

  9. How ’bout a hippie ice-cream truck, with rainbows, peace signs, and sunsets. Y’know, cheerful like.

  10. sounds like a flashback to rivington street’s impersonation of st mark’s place for ‘across the universe’.

and i just remembered that the streit’s building was just freshly repainted/buffed this week, so i suspect that the d.o.s. sent them a letter/citation that they jumped on asap. i guess that ‘blue’ must be filled with snitches calling 311 as they stroll about their new hood!

i wonder what happens in a case like abc no rio where there is what i presume to be permission to do the exterior pieces…

  11. I am sure that is allowed, the mural stuff, Chico memorials, Bad Pussies, etc.

  12. This would work great in the group pool Watching the Watchers http://www.flickr.com/groups/watchthis/

  13. nah,

the driver pulled up and stared long and hard at the mural probably looking for anything new on it. he probably thought you were trying to flick something that you just put up. and would have called it in to the cops, get you fined for vandalism.

  14. I’d gladly accept a fine over getting arrested. I compare it to radio pay-for-play when some shit band pays the dj off.
