Axis
Monday, March 31st, 2008
Some new pasted paper street art, signed Axis. This one is on top of the neglected and recently tagged over Swoon Mural.
It’s pretty slick stuff, most likely printed at someplace like Kinkos. I like the summer of love sentiments and graphics. But let me register a slight suspicion that it might be some sort of viral ad.
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.”
This piece, which I am assuming is also axis is dedicated to the drug DMT, the drug that let Terrence McKenna talk to the aliens. That’s a Stikman piece on the bottom and a WK on the right.
amolho4 says: this looks like it’s done by “axis.” Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), also known as N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is a naturally occurring tryptamine and potent psychedelic drug, found not only in many plants, but also in trace amounts in the human body wherein its natural function is undetermined…..Many cultures, indigenous and modern, ingest DMT as a psychedelic in extracted or synthesized forms.

Irena Kittenclaw says: G, DMT is one the key ingredients in ayahuasca (if you recall my Amazon story)…It’s pretty powerful. A guy by the name of Rick Strassman actually got to test it on humans (which is a hard thing to get approval for in the U.S., perhaps anywhere) and he wrote a book called DMT: The Spirit Molecule…a very interesting, sometimes scary account…

War Without End
Monday, March 31st, 2008Thom Hartmann bumped for Ed Shultz
Monday, March 31st, 2008First Air America replaced the funny and informed, Sam Seder for the facile-tongued, mal-informed Lionel. Now they’ve replaced Thom Hartman, a true scholar, cilvil libertarian and national treasure for Ed Shultz. Well that only leaves the hours between 3 and 8 where Randi Rhodes and Rachel Maddow are still saying anything I want to listen to on Air America. I guess I should listen to Shultz before I badmouth him, but my gut reaction from listening to a few minutes of his show is not good. I called WWRL the Air America flagship station in NYC. They say it was a decision coming from Air America, though this post on ThomHartmann.com suggests contacting WWRL.
Update from Thom Harman on his site:
FYI, my show is still owned by me and syndicatd by Air America Radio Network. In fact, we added Miami and Destin, FL, today as new affiliates.
In New York, Access 1, the company which owns WWRL, bought another talk show last Friday. That show is not owned by its host, but by investors, who sold it to Access 1. Since the company now owns the show, they put it on the radio station they own. Just makes business sense – that way they own all the advertising minutes (normally a network keeps 15 minutes per day as inventory they can sell) – regardless of ratings, it’s more profitable for them to run a show they own than to run a show syndicated by a network.
My show was picked up in Miami today to replace the show now owned by Access 1, because of poor ratings by the other show. It’s my hope that Air America will soon find another New York station interested in carrying my program. And, unlike other shows, we won’t sell the show in order to get a station to carry us. That will *not* happen! smilies/wink.gif

Mystery Bundle
Sunday, March 30th, 2008Has anyone else in the neighborhood (East Village, Lower East Side) noticed the proliferation of bundles of stuff, often on piled-high shopping carts, loosely attached to parking poles. I know a Chinese woman is associated with the shopping carts. This huge pile on East Second Street seems a bit overblown. Big enough to live in, but it doesn’t have the feel of habitation. Could it be the sad result of someone’s eviction?

3-D Empire State from Bryant Park
Sunday, March 30th, 2008
This is my first try at shooting 3-D photos. To view them in 3-D you need to cross your eyes.
Sit 2 to 3 feet from the screen. Point your right index finger at the white center line, stare at your fingertip and slowly bring it closer to your eyes. When you see the left and right images merge in the center, focus on them and lower your finger.
It’s easier to do if you View Full Size

WordPress 2.5
Saturday, March 29th, 2008I just updated my blogging software to WordPress 2.5. The update went smoothly, though it always feels scary to me when I delete the old files before putting the new ones on the server. Make sure you save your database, make a copy of the old files, preserve your config file, and don’t delete any custom themes or plugins from your wp-content folder.
WP 2.5 has a lot of new stuff in the admin section. My favorite is the built in plugin for your WordPress stats, and when writing a new post it now easily allows for embedding media.
