Swoon Mural – Lower East Side

Swoon is a Brooklyn based street artist who is best known for her paper cutouts or carvings, as she called them in my interview with her in 2003. This movie takes you through the changes on this mural from 2003 to 2007.

  1. Great work. Swoon should be thrilled. I liked the commentary as well. It was simple, but always clear and to the point. The problem of defacing artistic work on the streets can never be stopped. People are envious of her success. The best thing is to make films or take photographs so that there is a record. Also people are collecting the stuff hoping to cash in if the artist gets famous. Wheatpastes are hard if not impossible to remove, but boards or plaques are easily dislodged.

Love this; thanks for sharing your thoughts on all this … I love Swoon’s new use of colour. So vibrant in the city. Hope it stays till I get there in April

I’ve stopped giving the exact location of the street art in my photos on the web, because so much of it is being stolen or destroyed.

  10. Aw G, didn’t see this until tonight. Mighty fine tribute you’ve got here…I didn’t consider some aspects of her latest work until I watched this. Thanx.

    Dig this.

Great art can be defaced but when recorded, as you have, never forgotten. Thanks for your commentary on a brilliant artist. Beautifully done!
