Members of secret societies and fraternal organizations such as the Freemasons, Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias have produced some of the most mysterious and elusive art in America. Bruce and Julie Webb, long-time collectors of lodge art, recently mounted an extraordinary exhibition at the Webb Gallery in Waxahachie, Texas. It was a jolt seeing this old style NYC cop car on Avenue A. The blue body and white top color scheme was first used in 1973, and they switched over to the current mostly white with blue decorations in 1999. A movie is being filmed in the Tompkins Square area. I saw their equipment on Avenue B as well as on Avenue A. And they were filming on 9th Street when I passed.
