No Fire

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

It must have been a false alarm. Two ladder trucks showed up, siren’s blaring, on Houston Street and Avenue A, but left soon after. More Ladder 11

Ladder 18, Fort Pitt, not shown, also was there.

Clouds

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005
Unusual clouds, as regular as a plowed field. Tenth Street, looking west, near sunset. The closest match I’ve found for this pattern is this photo labeled Stratus at Sunset

That’s St. Nicholas Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church.

Pigeons in the Snow

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Beneath the pigeon tree, Southwest corner of Tompkins Park. It’s interesting seeing how their wing patterns makes it hard to distinguish individual birds; something that must make it a bit harder on the falcons. Not that I think Pale Male often hunts in the East Village. These guys are fat, slow, and unworried.

No queremos Gonzales

Monday, January 24th, 2005

“Two days before the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on Alberto Gonzales’ nomination for U.S. attorney general, there is a rising chorus of opposition that includes some prominent Hispanic voices. The first Hispanic Air National Guard officer appointed as an adjutant general in the United States, Maj. Gen. Melvyn Montano (Ret. USAF National Guard), and two Hispanic Stanford Law School professors have joined the watchdog group Human Rights First (formerly the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights) in formally opposing the Gonzales nomination.” – Mark Follman – Salon.com
