| I’m not sure of the technique used here. My guess is a combination of spray paint and stencil with brushwork on sticker paper, and that the drips are intentional and real. But I’d have to go out with a stepstool and magnifying glass to be sure. The above photo is from last October. Delancey and Norfolk Streets. |

| I poked my camera through the wrought iron fence of St. Mark’s Church. I saw no plaque. Could be a saint or Jesus, but I think it’s a memorial to Native Americans. The stone is weathered like that in the nearby Marble Cemetery, so it could date back to the time of their active warfare with the US government in the 1800′s. Presenting the enemy as heroic and holy would have been controversial in it’s day. I’ll see what I can find on the web.Update: I haven’t found anything about the statue, but I did find a great website: nyc-architecture.com. “tom fletcher’s new york architecture images and notes.” Here’s his page on St. Mark’s in the Bowery Church. I don’t know how I’ve not come across this site before. Yet to explore it deeply, but it looks to be a great resource for understanding the architecture and neighborhoods of Manhattan. |
