New Swoon Interview. Anyone who reads this blog knows how much respect I have for the street artist Swoon. I received a head’s up from Pitchaya Sudbanthad about his interview with Swoon for The Morning News. He covers a lot of ground, that I didn’t in my interview last year. Swoon talks about her techniques, philosophy, and her visit to Cuba.
“I feel like this kind of bug that I used to watch when I was growing up in the South. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid. It would camouflage itself by carrying all these twigs and leaves on its back. I feel like I’m always traveling with my weird little package and leaving a bit behind and taking a bit from wherever I go.”

Mosh a powerful, edgy animated video from Eminem and director Ian Inaba. “So on the eve of one of the most spirited elections in recent times, it’s time to try and turn out the vote. As a music video director, ideas for videos usually come independent of the song and are then adapted to fit the timing and lyrics of the featured track. I initially developed a concept for this video in June 2004 and contacted Interscope shortly after to find out what artists in their roster would be releasing albums near the election. The goal was to make a video that inspired young people to vote because they too often disregard it as a powerless exercise. To show them that political decisions do impact their daily lives and that voting is the most powerful act we all have to voice our opinion and effect change. And to educate and reiterate the point that whether or not people want to accept it, there are forces in play that attempt to suppress the youth and minority vote.”Update, 11/25: New ending, taking it to the streets.

Down the memory hole. Not that it’s not all over the internets. I regret ever seeing it, and apologize for having inflicted it on you.

I’m not much of a fan of spray paint tagging, but I am a sucker for elegant line, and it is hard to argue with the message. Whoever did this, managed to tag a huge area of lower Manhattan, overnight I think. On Sunday I saw at least 20 of them. The “Find the hidden city” stencil has the smell of a gallery organized event. Houston and Essex Streets. |
