Mosaic Man Moves

The paper version of The Villager has a haunting photo of Jim “Mosaic Man” Power and his dog, Jesse Jean, waving goodbye in front of a beat-up moving truck. He lost his East Village apartment a few months ago and is now moving to Pennsylvania. Power is known for gluing colorful pottery shards to lamposts. I’d describe him as a genuine outsider artist, and street performer. I hope he’s headind to a barn /studio to produce high-ticket, gallery friendly pieces, and he returns to restore Astor Place with his fortune.
The online version of The Villager, a free weekly paper, sporadically distributed in the East and West Village, has some good articles on the RNC demos.

Update 9/14/04: I saw some chalk writing on the sidewalk like Jim Power used to do. He may still be in town. The GammaBlaBlog sees all.
