Air America, is addictive. But the extreme repetition of fire-prevention, see-your-dentist, and don’t-waste-your-mind PSAs are maddening. The actual commercial mix is fascinating. I’ve heard McDonalds, Starbucks and Hummer commercials, mixed in with ads for AA’s PR firm, someone who has hocked her house to finance an anti-censorship film and is looking for backers, and old-age homes and hospice.
But the thing is folks on the air still seem to be devoted to speaking truth to power, and venting with humor.
Randi Rhodes is still my favorite. She’s an ex Air Force mechanic, has a great smoky voice, and speaks her mind. After hearing Condi’s admission of the August 6th PDB, she was calling for dereliction-of-duty charges for the commander- in-chief. yesterday.
The O’Franken Factor. Al Franken is loosening up, relaxing into radio. His co-host, Katherine Lanpher, late of Minnesota Public Radio, is not stepping on the comedy rhythm this week. Al’s old Franken and Davis comedy partner, Tom Davis, has been helping out on some of the recorded bits. Wally Ballou (Bob Elliot of Bob and Ray) showed up the other day. John Kerry is a guest today.
“The Majority Report” – Janeane Garofalo and Sam Seder. Still funny and sharp. The blog comments running during the show are worth looking at.
The two morning shows are entertaining as well, but except for Chuck D, I’ve yet to sort out who is who.
