It looks like that infamous snow painter has struck again. Though it is just as self-indulgent I actually like this years model a bit more. The stark red against the white is less offensive to my eyes than the piss yellow blue and red he used last year.

No I didn’t steal an image from the National Geographic. I shot it today, handheld, with my dinky digital camera. I’ve seen seagulls gather on the block between First Avenue and Avenue A on Houston Street for years. I must have caught this bird’s wings just as they were pausing between flapping up and down… Pure beautiful chance, maybe it was posing. NYC is a town by the sea.
